Batman Sunday Newspaper Strip - Story 15

June 24 - July 22, 1945

(The Diamond Cutter's Son)

We're back to a very straightforward story here of a jewel cutter forced to steal a valuable diamond he must split before film cameras in order to save his little boy. Batman agrees to help, but then discovers that his planned, timed trap is to go off at the same time Bruce Wayne has to appear as a guest speaker.

I think what I found most interesting is Brock, the diamond cutter, who struggles with wanting to save his son while also wanting to keep his reputation as a valued diamond cutter intact. As Batman and Robin are investigating the gang who has his son, he continues to do his job, cutting the stone he was supposed to replace even though he knows the criminals' eyes are on him.

For a Sunday story, it's not bad, but again, the short attention span requires that this doesn't drag out too long and so there are corners cut in terms of plot.

We're not done yet with the newspapers, Citizens. Next, we'll take a look at a daily story.
