Batman Newspaper Strip - Story 6

October 30, 1944 - January 27, 1945

(Twin Mills)

Gah! Not another story set in another town! Gotham City, as we known in modern storytelling, is rich with story potential. Indeed, it's a character unto itself. But here we are visiting another town in need of Batman and Robin's help.

Twin Mills is a town of about 50,000 with it's top of the heap shady person, Tweed Wickham. The local paper tries to bring him down and fails. Wickham heads to Gotham City to get Bruce to sell the paper and I have to say, I love the bit as Alfred announces Wickham to Bruce commenting on what a bore he is and Bruce musing that the big man from Twin Mills doesn't realize he's in Gotham City now.

What follows is a story of Batman trying to bring Wickham down with the added wrinkle that he manages to convince most folks that Batman and Robin are the enemy when he sets them up. But there are some good folks who do not believe it. The problem is, they are afraid to cross Wickham so they can only help in a limited capacity.

There is one interesting character in a little man known as Jojo, a gunman for hire who keeps in practice by "flicking" things with his gunshots. He shoots the bowtie off Bruce for example.

All in all, it's not a bad story, but once again, it feels like it dragged a little too long which took away from the enjoyment. And what's next, Citizens? We're back to Detective Comics. Hopefully, it's a story set in Gotham City.
