Batman #18 - Story 3

June 9, 1943

"The Good Samaritan Cops"

Now here's an interesting new take of stories, related to law enforcement. From the sounds of it, this is a more formal recognition in terms of classifying those stories where Batman was secondary.

Basically, the story opens with Bruce and Dick watching an emergency services truck leave from its garage. Now, we don't know where Bruce and Dick exactly are that they can see this. They can't be home as even though we are still dealing with the two in the suburbs rather than on the outskirts of Gotham City, it seems unlikely that they would have some form of law enforcement headquartered right next door and not notice the late night movements of the two. It gives Bruce the idea that Dick should learn more about the various forms of law enforcement.

It's a very simple story, almost reminding me of an episode of the 70s TV show Emergency as Batman and Robin join a brigade of rescue workers as they do simple tasks such as bringing a cat down from a power line to stopping a madman from tossing a woman from a high balcony. We even manage to get in a few licks from the Duo when they discover some crooks had released gas in a factory to distract from their thieving.

Like I said, a simple story and makes me wonder will we have similar ones to these as other aspects of law enforcement is featured. And what's next? Stay tuned, Citizens!
